American Cuisine Reviews

  1. B A Bolton Hill Bistro: (410)-383-8600

Located in Bolton Hill, this is a upscale neighborhood bistro with light fare, homemade soups, salads, paninis, and pizza.  They also have entree specials everyday as well as several entrees to choose from on the menu.  They have the option of choosing something from the "fish tank" or "butcher block."  You can dine inside or outside.  In the colder months they have heaters to keep you warm outside.  Tuesday night is half price bottles of wine and I encourage making a reservation.  B is closed on mondays.

My recommendations:

  • soup: carrot ginger (when in season), french onion
  • salad: B house salad, grilled ceasar
  • starter: hummus
  • panini: smoked salmon
  • pizza: margherita
  • entree: Tilapia,
  • dessert: homemade ice cream (pistacio), pot de creme, creme brulee
  • brunch: eggs benedict, applewood smoked bacon, duck sausage, mimosa

Tuesday to Saturday: 5 P.M. to 10 P.M.

Sunday: 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. - Brunch, 5 P.M. - 9 P.M. - Dinner

    2.  The Owl Bar:  (410)-347-0888

The Owl Bar is located inside the historic Belvedere Hotel in Mount Vernon.  The menu has soup, salad, starters, sandwiches, paninis, brick oven pizza, entrees, and seafood specialties.  You can dine in the bar area which has beautiful brick walls and a very high ceiling or in the non-smoking dining room area.  The restaurant offers seafood options like oysters, mussels, clams, steamed shrimp, and crab cakes.  Friday and Saturday nights are mostly busy, but during the week you can find yourself at a nice quiet table.

My recommendations:

  • soup: french onion
  • salad: toasted goat, seafood cobb
  • starter: buffalo wings
  • panini: corn beef
  • pizza: margherita
  • entree: chicken under a brick, crab cakes

Monday to Saturday:  11:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Sunday:  11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Sunday Brunch:  11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

    3.  The Brewer's Art:  (410)-547-6925

This restaurant is set in a historic grand townhouse in Mount Vernon.  They offer a seasonally-influenced menu of european-style country fare with meat, fish, seafood, pasta, and vegetarian dishes.  They brew their own beer on the premises, but also have a huge selection of beers and wines from around the world.  I would make a reservation for any night.

My recommendations:

  • soup: crab and corn chowder
  • salad: Smoked Duck and Melon with Frisée and Citrus-Walnut Oil
  • starter: Seared Crab Cake with Spicy Yellow Tomato Chow-Chow
  • entree: Pan-seared Barramundi, Steak Frites, Ballotine of Poussin
  • dessert: shortcake, cheese plate
  • beer: maison dupont, ressurection
